Beware of Foreclosure Rescue and Loan Modification Scams

Warning signs you may be dealing with a Mortgage Foreclosure and Loan Modification Scam Operator....
If the company:
  1. Demands a fee in advance. No legitimate organization that works with borrowers to avoid foreclosure will ever ask for money up front.
  2. Makes unsolicited offer or "lofty" advertisements, claiming they can help save your home.
  3. Offers to negotiate a loan modification for a fee.
  4. Recommends you break off contact with the lender and any counselor that you may have been working with.
  5. Advises you to stop making mortgage payments or tells you that you have to be late 30 days to help you.
  6. Tells you to send your mortgage payment to anyone other than your loan servicer.
  7. Instructs you to transfer ownership of your property.
  8. Make verbal promises that aren't put in writing.
  9. They tell you to move out of your property and they will rent it for you to cover your payments.
  10. Asks you to sign a document that has blank lines and spaces.
  11. Asks you to go to a title company to "close" your loan and your really getting your signature notarized to quit claim your property to them.
